The art and music events that we share at Alulu every month are focused on inclusion, empowerment, and communal joy. Discourses on equality and community only get us so far if we're not also engaging in the transformative power of communal celebration together in a regular way, at regular intervals of our being. We need rituals (parties) to anchor and materialize our collective affections and affinities!

The next monthly art and music show at Alulu will be a special kind of collective acknowledgment. We're happy to be welcoming to the stage the 4th installment of Queendom Come!! A Celebration of Women!!! We'll have the amazing R&B Songstress Lauren Eylise (from Cincinnati!) Awesome sounds of pop synth duo Pixel Grip, upbeat grooves from The Tomblands, and the one and only FURY HIP HOP! As always we'll have original artwork from 6 amazing local artists and a new craft beer making its debut on tap. Walter Santiago is co-curating this month, so come take a look at his collection! In the beginning, we invited you to awaken within the dream and you stirred from your slumber to help create a movement of transformation. You were encouraged and guided by our Seven Totems on a journey of inner discovery. You embraced your consciousness and interconnectedness with all universal energies. Together, we fortified our collective power and rediscovered ancient wisdom that has sustained humanity for eons. And finally, reaching the end of these transformational milestones, we arrived at a place of high vibrational resonance, an Eudaimonia, where joy, hope and the endless capacity for love flourish.

Six years of personal and collective transformation. Was it all a “waking dream” in a lucid landscape?

No, it wasn’t.

A new day is upon us. A new story is welling in our hearts. We are awakening, not just to our infinite potential as individual beings, not just to our collective power when we reinhabit the village, but to our vast possitentialities as a species, interconnected with all of life. Lucidity is an open-source transformational arts and music festival. We call it open-source because we co-create this festival experience with YOU! We invite you to come play with us, get involved with one of our seven themed villages, call together your star family, bring art, lead a workshop, spark a spontaneous flash mob, embody a character from your dreams, be silly and wild and free!

When we become lucid in our dreams, we realize ourselves as infinite potential, we let go of fear, and we are free to create that which we want to see in the world. Bring those visions, those possibilities, and that delicious conscious energy with you to Lucidity and wake up in the dream.

Year 7: Rising Dawn

As one great cycle comes to a close, a new beginning is birthed. In the fateful moment just before the Ouroboros cosmic serpent chomps down on his own tail, there is a liminal moment, a long and silent pause, an opportunity to spiral into a higher lucid octave of consciousness, rather than mindlessly repeating old stories and patterns. We stand on such a precipice, and looking out upon the horizon, with gratitude for the integration of the learnings from a long and challenging quest fulfilled, we see a familiar sunrise. A new day is upon us. A new story is welling in our hearts. It’s as though we’ve been here before, but that’s impossible...

Every other month, we handpick artists to create one of a kind pieces either paying tribute to legendary artists in the entertainment industry or that tie into a particular theme. We wanted to pull everyone out of the winterwoes and party Spring Break Style.

This Art Beat will be held on Friday, March 30th from 7:00pm-midnight. The event is focused on reliving Spring Break, highlighting what it means to us, and getting everyone ready for the Season change!

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL!

We will have LIVE performances, special SURPRISES, Hookah Lounge, and opportunities for people to not only view the artists at work, BUT be a part of creating art on their own. There will be an Arts & Crafts Creation Station, Canvas Painting, and painting of a Community Art Wall for all those who love to be hands on.

All in a SOCIAL PARTY ENVIRONMENT. Interesting right?

Art Beat was made to create a platform for artist to share their voices, visions and ideas with the world. By implementing "The Rising Stars" aspect into Artbeat, we not only spotlight the artist visual creations but we allow them to discuss their experiences on a panel at Art Beat Chicago. These artist completely expose the prize possessions that they hold dear to their hearts to everyone who listens, feels and relates to them at the Art Beat Social Art Party.

We’re bringing one of our underground events to the Midwest for the first time, and to one of our favorite cities: CHICAGO!

It’s been 7 years since we properly hit Chicago with a full-scale event (you may remember one of the hottest nights in our long history, practically soaked to the skin at the old Congress), and we can’t wait to return full power with friends and family coming from miles around. We are building a sonic magnet to draw you in from all around the country, taking over a huge room and transforming it into a full-on immersive sweatbox in the style of the raves I grew up on. Flickering lasers, writhing bodies, and undulating bass….all united together on one level!

For this first seasonal gathering we will celebrate the dawning of Spring: rebirth, regeneration, and a radiant gratitude for life. And the whole team is amping up on all levels: art, music, interactivity, and community.

Somewhere between a soul pop concert, South Side jazz club, slam poetry reading, and punk rock dive bar, lives the music of Cole DeGenova… As a pianist, vocalist, and composer Cole DeGenova has spent most of his life crafting his eclectic artistic voice, beginning his career at age 16 as a jazz pianist around his native Chicago. As a bandleader, he started his funky alternative soul group Cole DeGenova & The Peoples Republic at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, where he released his first album JUST PEOPLE AGAIN in 2009. A few years later, DeGenova released his second album ANOTHER COUNTRY. Now based in Chicago and Los Angeles, he is both an in demand studio musician as well as a touring performer around the globe. He has worked with Lupe Fiasco, Brett Dennen, Chance the Rapper, Gallant, Latin Grammy winner Lucky Diaz, Meshell N’Degeocello, Paula Cole, James Carter, engineer Eddie Kramer, Hey Champ, Dave Shaw, as well as funk group The Heard and experimental jazz trio Hanging Hearts. DeGenova is also a co-founder and organizer for the Chicago artist collective The Gala. His song “Hollywood Girl” was chosen as a Finalist in the 2015 American Songwriting Awards.
