Breaking & Entering and Nice FM Present: Big Beat MKE - Opening Round - at the Jackalope Lounj

Show: 9PM  |  Tickets: FREE  |   Ages: 21+ w/ govt issued ID

:: Details ::

Producers and beatsmiths of Milwaukee, it’s time for you to step up and see who will win Milwaukee’s new premier beat battle, Big Beat MKE. One lucky producer will be taking home a huge prize pack, as well as the honor of being dubbed the winner of the inaugural Big Beat MKE Tournament.

If you are familiar with the format of the former Miltown Beatdown, the battle format will be very much in the same style: two producers will go head to head for three one minute rounds, alternating beats for the judges and the crowd to hear. If the crowd demands it, one optional overtime round will be contested. Judges will pick the winner based on style, overall sound quality, and crowd reaction.

Each event will consist of two beat battles and performances from two local Milwaukee artists. The bracket will consist of 16 producers from the Milwaukee area, selected by a panel of local judges and tastemakers beforehand.

Join Kid Koala's turntable orchestra with this interactive live performance. Kid Koala presents an innovative collection of dreamy, atmospheric tracks composed especially for this event. In this latest live experience, audience members are seated at stations equipped with a turntable, effects box, and a small crate of color-coded vinyl records. Through subtle colored lighting changes, the audience is cued to play along. An integral part of the show, the audience accompanies Kid Koala to create an “ambient vinyl orchestra,” melding individual strains into a fluid body of sound. The idea is to have 60 harmonized turntables create a unique, uplifting, dynamic evening of light and music.

Support for Live Arts programming is provided by the Woman’s Board of the Art Institute of Chicago.

An intense touring schedule and focused studio time have helped TAUK tap into
their singular chemistry to elevate and expand their all-instrumental blend of funk,
hip-hop, progressive rock, and jazz. Renowned for both their refined musicality
and unbridled creativity, the Oyster Bay, New York-bred rock-fusion four-piece
(guitarist Matt Jalbert, bassist Charlie Dolan, keyboardist Alric “A.C.” Carter, and
drummer Isaac Teel) push into new sonic terrain and build entire worlds within
each richly textured soundscape.

The band has returned to the studio to craft a follow up to 2016’s Sir Nebula
which found TAUK introducing a cosmically inspired element to their music. “The
album ended up taking on a more ambient kind of vibe than anything we’ve done
before—there’s a spaciness in the songs that lets you get lost in the sound,” says
Dolan. And while the album is endlessly hypnotic, TAUK also deliver the dynamic
tension-and- release jams that have helped earn them a devoted following while
drawing critical acclaim (the Washington Post, for one, praised TAUK for
“creating a hard-charging, often melodic fusion that—thanks to a penchant for
improv—offers limitless possibilities”).

As with their past releases, TAUK is creating the follow up to Sir Nebula in
collaboration with Grammy Award-winning producer/mixer/engineer Robert
Carranza (The Mars Volta, Ozomatli, Jack Johnson, Taj Mahal). The band has
been holed up in an abandoned house, turned studio on Long Island, NY a
region which traces back to childhood, when longtime friends Dolan, Jalbert, and
Carter formed their first band in seventh grade and held practice in their school
basement. After playing together in various projects over the years, the trio
brought Teel into the fold in 2012, cementing the final lineup. “We gelled pretty
quickly as friends and as musicians, and now there’s a connection onstage that’s
unspoken,” notes Teel. “You just feel it from the energy within the band and from
the response coming from the crowd—all these people in the same exact
headspace.”

Since their formation, TAUK have shared stages with an impressive list of bands
(including Widespread Panic, Umphrey’s McGee, Lettuce, and Tim Reynolds &
TR3), in addition to appearing at festivals like Electric Forest, Bonnaroo, and The
Allman Brothers’ Peach Music Festival. That rigorous touring schedule has gone
a long way in strengthening their chemistry, according to Carter. “We’re doing
over 100 shows a year and we pretty much live with each other, so there’s a
healthy respect and trust and love happening there,” he says. “We all have a
common goal and an understanding that this is something we’re compelled to do,
and that’s definitely brought us close together.” It’s also helped TAUK develop a
reputation as a masterful live act: “TAUK is unstoppable,” raved Live for Live
Music. “If you haven’t see them, dear God, go.”

EGI

[ Website ]

EGI (Ethereal Groove, Inc.) is an experimental funk group with a young and energetic spirit and feel. EGI pushes the limits of improvisation, writing and energy rich shows. The band displays great versatility with rotating multi instrumentalists and a progressive appreciation for many genres.

Experimentation is EGI's main forte, the band has always had a very level headed feel to writing which allows everyone to incorporate their ideas without hesitation. Young and driven, EGI is breaking musical ground with every turn.

Take Talks is a panel interview and networking series in Chicago that's goal is to encourage you to take your career back into your own hands and discover actionable steps you can use in your film career. We interview and learn from successful filmmakers in Chicago who have been creating your favorite films, web series, and shorts. This series is a wonderful opportunity for networking in a relaxed environment and meeting other like-minded individuals.

Join us for an in-depth discussion on Content Creation and Production!
You have an idea you're excited about, but now what? How do you actually go about creating it? We're going into a deep dive on how to take a film or web series from idea to completed project.

How many people do you need on your crew? What does each crew member do? What do you do about budget (or NO budget)? We'll be working with three Chicago filmmaking experts to unlock the mystery behind creating your own content so that you can leave this event with actionable next steps for your project. Featuring a guided panel discussion, an open forum Q+A where you can ask whatever questions you have, and a no pressure networking environment where you can meet like-minded people who are also looking to create independent content in Chicago.

Mark Banks Art Presents | Queendom Come 2018

The art and music events that we share at Alulu every month are focused on inclusion, empowerment, and communal joy. Discourses on equality and community only get us so far if we're not also engaging in the transformative power of communal celebration together in a regular way, at regular intervals of our being. We need rituals (parties) to anchor and materialize our collective affections and affinities!

The next monthly art and music show at Alulu will be a special kind of collective acknowledgment. We're happy to be welcoming to the stage the 4th installment of Queendom Come!! A Celebration of Women!!! We'll have the amazing R&B Songstress Lauren Eylise (from Cincinnati!) Awesome sounds of pop synth duo Pixel Grip, upbeat grooves from The Tomblands, and the one and only FURY HIP HOP! As always we'll have original artwork from 6 amazing local artists and a new craft beer making its debut on tap. Walter Santiago is co-curating this month, so come take a look at his collection! Get there before 10 pm when the kitchen closes for awesome food! SEE YOU THERE!! Stick around after the show for an open mic hosted by Gabe Sullivan until the bar closes!!

Lucidity Festival 2018: Rising Dawn

to Apr 9

Lucidity Festival 2018: Rising Dawn

In the beginning, we invited you to awaken within the dream and you stirred from your slumber to help create a movement of transformation. You were encouraged and guided by our Seven Totems on a journey of inner discovery. You embraced your consciousness and interconnectedness with all universal energies. Together, we fortified our collective power and rediscovered ancient wisdom that has sustained humanity for eons. We found ourselves at a Crossroads: bring this wisdom into our present reality and move forward with effective change or succumb to a lesser, futile path. And finally, reaching the end of these transformational milestones, we arrived at a place of high vibrational resonance, an Eudaimonia, where joy, hope and the endless capacity for love flourish.

Six years of personal and collective transformation. Was it all a “waking dream” in a lucid landscape?

No, it wasn’t.

A new day is upon us. A new story is welling in our hearts. We are awakening, not just to our infinite potential as individual beings, not just to our collective power when we reinhabit the village, but to our vast possitentialities as a species, interconnected with all of life. The rising sun illuminates where we’ve been and shines light on the path before us. We see this next rite of passage as a new quest toward a unified humanity, and we joyfully say YES, and Thank You!

:: The Festival ::

Lucidity is an open-source transformational arts and music festival. We call it open-source because we co-create this festival experience with YOU! We invite you to come play with us, get involved with one of our seven themed villages, call together your star family, bring art, lead a workshop, spark a spontaneous flash mob, embody a character from your dreams, be silly and wild and free!

When we become lucid in our dreams, we realize ourselves as infinite potential, we let go of fear, and we are free to create that which we want to see in the world. Bring those visions, those possibilities, and that delicious conscious energy with you to Lucidity and wake up in the dream.

Year 7: Rising Dawn

As one great cycle comes to a close, a new beginning is birthed. In the fateful moment just before the Ouroboros cosmic serpent chomps down on his own tail, there is a liminal moment, a long and silent pause, an opportunity to spiral into a higher lucid octave of consciousness, rather than mindlessly repeating old stories and patterns. We stand on such a precipice, and looking out upon the horizon, with gratitude for the integration of the learnings from a long and challenging quest fulfilled, we see a familiar sunrise. A new day is upon us. A new story is welling in our hearts. It’s as though we’ve been here before, but that’s impossible...

Be sure to check out our website - 2018.lucidityfestival.com - for more information soon, especially the FAQ / Event Details Page. Applications to participate more fully will be open mid to late November. And just so we're clear - No refunds, all sales final. Tickets can be transferred in Eventbrite.

Co-Facilitated by Simon Jay & Neale Baldyga. We are blessed to bring you this experience:

Featuring the ॐOm Vibration Frequency, which stimulates the Heart and 4th Chakra-Anahata, this journey through the Vibrations and the senses combines: Sound Healing Therapy, Brain Entrainment, Aromatherapy, ASMR, and Reiki to create a safe and intention based environment for mind space exploration, energy release, and channeling of inspiration.

Be transported with the sacred sounds of the flute, bells, singing bowls, handpan, drums, and Gong as you journey through tones, frequencies, and live sound healing. This immersive and meditative journey is designed to clear the energetic and physical body while bringing harmony to the system. Be transported through this transient trans-formative auditory and vibrational trip that can facilitate a cleansing, clearing, calming and energizing effect.

The powerful Gong serves as a facilitator to break up emotional, physiological and spiritual blockages. Featuring the “Atlantis Gong”, it carries deep full bodied sounds that can conjure up emotional depth, creating sensations with deep body effects followed by sweet harmonic overtones that echoes through the nervous system like waves. This ringing feels like gentle vibration washing through your body. The Atlantis gong vibrates healing frequency that stimulates: Emotional Balance, Clear Energetic Blockages, and Heighten Intuitive Connection. Be immersed in this tantalizing sound bath, wash away negative blockages, transform through the intensity and be reborn through the Journey.

Bring any sacred items that you would like to. Comfortable things are always a good thing (blankets, pillows, comfy clothes, etc). Prepare to journey!

There is a capacity for this event. Please buy your ticket ahead of time if you are interested. Tickets will be $35 at the door.

BogTroTTeR(Minneapolis, MN)
Shanti Planti | Addictech.com | Re:Evolution

Through complex percussions and growling rhythms, BogTroTTeR’s diverse collage of original compositions challenges the scope of modern day psychedelic bass music. His sound pushes the limits through his own unique mixture of glitch-hop, breakbeats, and psy-bass with a dark, swampy twist. Murky bass lines and terrestrial synthesizers are just a few things contributing to the lustrous sound field amalgamated by BogTroTTeR.

BogTroTTeR has seven releases creating complex terrestrial soundscapes on legendary Shanti Planti, Merkaba, and Addictech Records.

DRRTYWULVZ (Austin, TX)
Street Ritual

Levi Witt, the auditory wizard behind the impressively crisp production, currently resides in Austin where he continues inspiring dancefloors everywhere. Others have certainly noticed, and large festivals such as Symbiosis, Enchanted Forest and Burning Man have brought DRRTYWULVZ to their stages as he has released several albums, including his most recent creation, “Ah Yes”.

The pleasantly alluring compositions of DRRTYWULVZ can be closely compared to the glitch and psydub of Tipper or Kalya Scintilla, yet his unique approach to euphoric dub styles is nothing short from extraordinary. Open your mind and prepare to howl at the moon, for the energetic melodies and innovative beat patterns of DRRTYWULVZ will blow you away.

Hullabalo0 (Reno, NV)
Street Ritual

"I got into electronic music at the age of 14, compiling loops I found in Garage Band. Then was able to hook up my keyboard and start recording my own compositions and fell in love with the electronic music world. I then started to produce music with FLstudio making electronic instrumentals and drum & bass.

As my skills evolved I was able to start producing bedroom psytrance with big influences of Infected Mushroom and Astrix. When I moved to Argentina at 16 I continued my passion with my set of headphones for the next 2 years producing many tracks and even "albums" that I later organized. Always showing friends and family for feedback. The scene at the time was very big on Minimal-techno and slowly was able to appreciate it. There was a skatepark that I escaped to that converted into a very shanty club after the day. There I started to DJ and as well as produce (at home) more and more minimal techno with always my own spin for complex rhythms and textures.
I now reside in Reno after returning from 4 years in Argentina and graduating from a Music & Art highschool named Centro Polivalente de Arte. I continue my production with the dream of once getting discovered for my talents in Piano and Music Production."

" This space-bass artist has a psychedelic sound anchored by dubstep-inspired sub bass and elevated by a creative capitalization of digital production’s rapid advancements. In a postmodern culture, he’s one of many artists successfully kissing genre confines goodbye "
